In this series:
I want to share with you the entire process from start to finish of creating a punch needle piece.
You will want to start with a pattern you love and some good quality weavers cloth.
I am going to use one of my free punch needle patterns for this demonstration.
Cut the weavers cloth to be big enough for the pattern PLUS enough extra so it will fit in your locking hoop or frame (more on that next time). For most of my patterns, a 12 inch square works well.
To trace the pattern, I use a light box my father made for me. It is just a wooden box with a glass top and a light bulb inside.
If you don’t have a light box, you can also use a window.
Tape your pattern on your light box or window.
Then, center your weavers cloth over the top of the pattern and tape it down. Then you can start tracing. I usually use a very thin tipped Sharpie. But, I have also used a pencil and it works just fine.
Next time, I will show you how to put the weavers cloth into your locking hoop or rug hooking frame.
