For several years now,
I have been creating wool bats
with my drum carder.
For Christmas this year,
my Dad designed and made a diz for me.
I love how he made it with a handle
and multiple sizes for me to pull the fiber through.
After watching a video, it easy to figure out how to diz.
Processing Wool with a Diz:
After the fiber is on the carder,
you pull a small amount off one side of the drum
and thread it through the diz.
I don’t have a hook, so I unfolded a paperclip.
I tried using the largest hole,
but I think I like this second largest hole better.
(I haven’t tried any of the smaller ones yet.)
Pull the wool through the diz as you turn the drum carder around.
This creates a beautiful roving!
It takes a little more time to get it off the drum carder
than just making a bat.
But, it is less processing when it is time to spin.
I have been enjoying processing wool with a diz and have whipped up
quite a few rovings since Christmas!
I have set up my laptop on the table with the carder
so I can watch craft videos while I work.
