In this primitive craft tutorial, I am going to age some craft clothespins and wrap them with fabric. These make a great primitive decor bowl filler!

Age the Clothespins:
I am starting with some wooden clothespins from a craft store. I like the shape of them but they definitely look too new.
To give them an aged look, I put them in a glass pan and sprinkled them with instant coffee. I poured hot water over the top and then sprinkled more instant coffee onto the clothespins. I let this soak for several minutes.

I then took the clothespins out of the water and sprinkled some more instant coffee over the top of the clothespins while they were still wet. This makes them look like they have age spots in addition to the darker color.

If, after the clothespins dry, they still aren’t antique enough looking for your taste, you can add a coat of antiquing wax to them.

Age the Fabric:
Choose what fabrics you want to use for wrapping the clothespins. I used some cotton fabric scraps I had leftover from other projects.
Dunk the fabrics into the same coffee dye used earlier. When the fabrics are completely saturated, remove them from the coffee mixture and squeeze out the extra coffee. Leave them scrunched up in a ball and set them aside to dry.

After the fabric is dry, press the fabric.
Wrap the Primitive Clothespins:
Rip the fabric into about 1/2″ strips. Wrap the fabric strips around the clothespin. Use craft glue to secure the ends of the fabric strips.
If you want, you can add a vintage button, rusty safety pin, or some other decoration to the fabric on the clothespins.
