About

Amy Smith

DoodleDog Primitives is dedicated to preserving the inherently quirky, creative, and whimsical world of primitive art through exceptional products and creative patterns.  My name is Amy Smith and I am the proud owner and artist behind DoodleDog Designs.

I have been crafting for my entire life and over the past several years I have expanded into designing punch needle patterns.   I believe that primitive art is a wonderful way to turn a house into a home and it’s my goal to help you make your corner of the world just a little cozier.

Take a look at the Vintage Country Christmas issue of Kindred Stitches magazine, Issue 37, where I was the featured artist.  It includes a punch needle Santa ornament I designed.  My Sam the Sheep project was published in the Summer 2017 issue of Primitive Quilts and Projects Magazine and I designed a winter sheep bowl filler for the 2017 Christmas ~ Winter Mega Issue of Punch Needle & Primitive Stitcher magazine.

In addition to offering my designs online, I also teach needle punch art locally and am always available to help you through your projects.  One of my favorite tips details how to keep DMC floss from tangling while separating the strands.  All you have to do is tie one end of the floss to a fish tackle swivel and separate starting at the other end!  Please enjoy your time here in DoodleDog Primitives and feel free to reach out to me with any questions or requests.  I am excited to be a part of your journey in the crafting world of primitive art.

About Me

Our small farm is nestled amongst the Amish. We have a few cows, some sheep, a labradoodle, one calico cat, and lots of wide open spaces for our children to roam. I enjoy making primitive needle punch, wool creations, and learning how to spin the wool from our sheep. Read more...
