I have a lot of scraps of felted wool, so I decided to make some primitive style felted wool acorns. All you need is some felted wool, stuffing, and basic sewing supplies.

Making the Acorn Bowl Fillers:
Choose some scraps of brown felted wools that coordinate for the acorn tops and bottoms.
Making the Acorn Bottom:
The pattern for the acorn bottom is just a u-shape. I made mine two inches tall and two and one half inches wide.

For each acorn bottom, cut two u-shapes.
From the same wool as you used for the bottoms, cut a narrow strip about 3/8″ wide and 1-1/2″ long for the stem.
Layer the two acorn bottom pieces on top of each other, with the right sides together. Using a 1/4″ seam, sew all the way around the curved edge, leaving the straight edge open for turning.
Turn the acorn bottom so the right side is to the outside. Stuff the acorn bottom. I used a poly fill type stuffing. You can use whatever you prefer for stuffing.

Making the Acorn Top:
Choose a coordinating felted wool for the acorn’s top. For the pattern, find something circular with a diameter around four inches. I used an old wooden thread spool.
Cut out one round wool top for each acorn. Cut a small slit in the very center of the circle. You can easily find the circle by folding the wool in half and then fold it over again into quarters.

Fold the acorn stem in half and poke the two raw ends through the hole you just made in the acorn top. Pull the ends through until you have a nice sized acorn stem. Fold each end to one side on the inside of the acorn top. Use a needle and thread to tack the ends to the acorn top.

Use a needle and thread to run a gathering stitch about 1/4″ from the edge of the fabric all the way around the acorn top.
Slip the top over the acorn bottom, adding more stuffing if needed. Pull the gathering thread taut and then stitch the top to the bottom.
