A while back, I had someone ask me to design a wool scissors case that could be attached to a project with magnets. She wanted to be able to attach the case to her foundation fabric while punching or hooking so the scissors would always be ready and easy to find.

Making the Wool Scissors Case:
The Magnets:
If you want to make your wool scissors case magnetic, you need some super heavy duty magnets. I had some from the craft store that said they were super strong, but they weren’t strong enough to hold together through multiple layers of wool.
I raided my husband’s leather working supplies and found a set of Tandy leather magnet discs that really are super strong and will hold together even through multiple layers of wool.
The Pattern:
I placed my scissors on a piece of paper and drew a triangle with rounded edges shape around it. I used a spool of thread to make my corners pretty and even. This will be the pattern for the back of the scissors case. I drew a line across the pattern around the bottom of the scissors’ finger holes to make the pattern for the top.
You will also need a circle that is larger than your magnet, but smaller than the back of the scissors case pattern.

The Wool:
I made the main part of the scissors case out of felted wool that came from a sweater that I felted. I chose this wool because it is a little heavier than my other felted wools, making it less floppy for the scissors case.
I cut one back and one front for the scissors case and one circle.
Then I chose some other wool fabrics that would coordinate with the scissor case wool and cut more circles for pennies in gradually smaller sizes. I ended up with 2 extra pennies on the circle, three pennies on the front of the case, and two on the back. The largest one on the back also needs to be larger than the magnet.
I also cut two leaves from green wool.
Sewing the Scissor Case:
I used a light khaki pearl cotton floss to blanket stitch everything together except the leaves. I stitched the leaves on with thread to match the leaves.
I stitched the pennies and leaves onto the front of the case. I put two pennies together on the back of the case to hold the magnet. I put one magnet between the pennies and the back of the case and blanket stitched it together.
The magnets will attract each other one direction and repel each other the other direction. Make sure you pay attention to this when you sew things together.
I put the other magnet between the largest and next to largest pennies on the other piece.

Finally, I blanket stitched along the top front of the scissors case and then placed the two pieces wrong sides together, and stitched all the way around the rest of it.
To use, I put the scissor case on the top of my project, with the circle underneath it and that holds it in place while I hook or punch!
