In this primitive craft tutorial, I will be making a painted fabric patriotic flag banner. I will display my new flag banner this summer to celebrate the 250th anniversary.

Make the Flag Banner:
Cut 5 pieces of natural colored fabric into 4″ x 5″ rectangles.
Paint two of the fabric rectangles completely blue and paint 1/2″ red stripes on the other 3 pieces of fabric. You will want the stripes to be running up and down when the fabric is in the portrait (not landscape) direction. You can use some 1/2″ painter’s tape or just draw pencil lines every 1/2″ for guidance.
Once the paint is dry, paint the remaining stripes white and let that dry.
Use light colored tracing paper and this template to trace a star onto each of the blue rectangles. Paint the stars white. Once the paint is dry, you can lightly sand the paint if you want to add a distressed look.
Next, trace the 76 onto the stars and paint those with grey paint.
Use the template to cut a triangle out of the bottom of each fabric rectangle.

You can grunge the flags with some antiquing medium if desired.
Use hot glue to attach the banners to a jute string.
