Once again, we have my mom joining us for this post. She is going to demonstrate how she outlines a rug hooking project when using monks cloth as her foundation fabric. This rug hooking pattern has both straight lines and a curved outline edge and she will show us both!
For the background on this project, we are going to use multiple different shades of a natural cream wool. This will give an aged look to the background.,
Watch the Rug Hooking Video:
Hooking a Straight Edge:
To get a straight line on your rug hooking outline, take the back side of your hook and put it up next to one of the holes on your monks cloth. Run the hook down the fabric, keeping in the groove between two different threads. If you do this several times, it opens up the holes.
Hook in those open holes all the way across the side to get a straight edge.
If the drawn pattern line doesn’t quite match the trail you made with the back of the hook, you can adjust and follow the channel of holes you created.

Hooking a Curved Edge:
When you are hooking a curved edge, move over and up one hole at a time as needed (like stairsteps) and adjust the angle of the loop to match the curve.
