It seems like every bit of punch needle history I read mentions making doll house rugs with the punch needle tools. I have been doing punch needle for many years and never made a doll house rug before now.
In order to rectify this situation, I took a little tour of the family’s dollhouse to choose a rug location so I could make a punch needle doll house rug.

Making a Punch Needle Dollhouse Rug:
I have kept the doll house that our kids played with when they were young. After doing a quick perusal of the flooring situation in the doll house, I realized it really could use rugs in many different locations. For this demonstration, I chose to make a new doll house rug for the entry way.
First, I measured the area to choose an appropriate size for the rug and then I used the shapes tool in my word processor to make an oval the correct size and a flower for the center.
I punched the rug using 6 strands of embroidery floss on weavers cloth using my Smart Punch needle tool on level 1. I used a gold floss for the flower center, a variegated blue for the flower petals and Ecru for the background.
After punching, I finished the rug in the same way I would finish a punch needle ornament without adding anything in the middle to stabilize it.
I love how this punch needle rug turned out. It is the perfect addition to my doll house!
