I didn’t have any wool just the right color for the nose and cheeks on this hooked rug of George Washington. Everything was just too bright for his face. So, I overdyed some wool worms to use for this rug hooking project.

OverDye Wool Worms:
After I removed the wool worms from the hooked rug, I made some instant coffee. I used one cup of hot water and one tablespoon of instant coffee. This made a pretty strong cup of coffee!
I then submerged the worms into the coffee and let them sit for about 30 seconds. I removed them and let them dry before hooking the nose again.
The color of the overdyed wool worms is much more muted and looks much better now – perfect for George’s nose and cheeks!
