In this primitive craft tutorial, I will show how I upcycled a jar to make a grungy pantry jar with a primitive star. This jar looks like it has been around for a long time and is a perfect addition to your primitive kitchen. I have also made a jar of faux strawberry jam you might enjoy.

Make a Primitive Pantry Jar:
I am going to paint the inside of the jar to make it look like there is something in the jar and then add my grunge to the outside of the jar.
Before I start painting, I will wash the jar and then clean it with some rubbing alcohol.
I used some black craft paint to paint the inside of the jar and let it completely dry.

After the paint was dry, I measured the jar for my primitive label. My jar had some ridges, so I wanted to make sure the label fit above the ridges.

I used this primitive star label for my jar. It comes larger than I needed, so I resized the file to the correct size for my jar and printed it. I creased the edges of the label and gently tore it out. If you want, you can grunge the label with an ink pad.

Then, I adhered the label to the jar with ModPodge and applied a coat of ModPodge to the entire outside of the jar (one side at a time). While the ModPodge was still wet, I sprinkled some cinnamon onto the outside of the jar. For a really grungy look, you can add some instant coffee granules also. I then dabbed another coat of ModPodge over the cinnamon grunge.

To finish the pantry jar, I added a coffee dyed square of cheesecloth and tied it on with a torn strip of fabric. I also tucked a couple sprigs of sweet annie behind the tie.
