I had some vintage decor that needed a makeover so I decided to turn it into a primitive spring fresh carrot sign complete with a hooked rug carrot! It is amazing what a fresh coat of paint and a little creativity can do for old outdated decor.

Vintage Decor Makeover:
The sign had a jute border all the way around the inside of the frame that I scraped off. I also ended up scraping off the old sign since it started coming off anyway.
I then painted the frame with a watered down brown craft paint and cut a piece of fabric to fit in the sign.
On the word processor on my computer, I typed the sign words and chose some fonts I liked. I chose a stencil-like font for Carrots and a font that looks more hand printed for the word Fresh and the 10¢.
I then printed out the words in a size good for my frame and used my light box to trace the letters onto the fabric I cut earlier. After tracing the letters, I painted them with brown craft paint.
Next, I took some raffia and painted it with a watered down green craft paint. These will be the carrot tops.

I then drew a small carrot that would fit in the middle of the sign and hooked it with 1/8″ #4 orange wool worms. After hooking, I serged around the carrot and pressed the empty foundation fabric to the back.
With all of the paint dry, the next step was to glue the fabric sign into the frame.
I took the green rafia and tied a string around it right in the middle of the pieces and then folded it in half right at the string.

Next, I glued the empty foundation fabric to the back of the carrot and glued the carrot onto the sign with the carrot top glued underneath the carrot. I then scrunched the carrot top raffia so it wasn’t quite so straight.
Finally, I glued some jute all the way around the sign to hide the edges of the fabric.
