In this craft tutorial, I am going to be making a Valentine bowl filler with a small punch needle heart. I want to make this look like an antique primitive style Valentine.

Make the Valentine Bowl Filler:
I drew a larger heart and a smaller heart for my patterns. I will make the larger heart out of red checked fabric and punch the small heart onto some weavers cloth.

After some trial and error, I realized that I needed to coffee dye the weavers cloth BEFORE punching the heart. This was probably because of the type of floss I was using, but it is easy enough to do things in this order! I also coffee dyed the red checked fabric hearts after I cut out two of those using the larger pattern I drew.
After punching the heart, I tore the weavers cloth into a small square, found a rusty safety pin, and a small doily. I glued some antique lace around the edge of the back of one of the fabric hearts.

I glued the small doily and the punch needle heart to the big heart. Using 1 strand of embroidery floss, I sewed a running stitch all the way around the square of weavers cloth, starting and ending at the top right and tied the two ends into a knot. Then I added the safety pin to the other top corner of the weavers cloth.

With the wrong sides together, I glued the two hearts together around the edges, leaving an opening for stuffing. Starting at the top left, and using 6 strands of embroidery floss, I made a running stitch around the outside edge of the heart, again leaving the opening for stuffing. At the beginning of the stitching, I left a long string dangling.
After stuffing the the heart Valentine bowl filler, I glued the opening closed and finished sewing it together. With the two ends of embroidery floss, I tied a bow.
