In this craft tutorial, I will make a pretty flower from some felted wool. The flower center is made from coiled wool strips. This is a great stash buster for your wool scrap basket!

Make the Wool Flower:
For the flower petals, I chose to use a felted wool with some color variations in it. This gives the flower some natural looking color variations in the petals.
I started by cutting a 2″ circle from the petal wool. I then cut 10 petals. They are each about 1-1/2″ tall and about 1″ wide.
I then sewed a small pleat into the end of 5 of the petals.

Next, I formed a 1-1/2″ diameter wool roll out of some 1/4″ wool strips. (This is a great way to use up some leftover rug hooking worms!) After the addition of each new strip, I tacked the coil together with a needle and thread.

All that was left now was to assemble the flower. First, I glued the non-pleated petals around the outside of the circle. Then I glued on a layer of pleated petals so the petals were staggered with the first layer’s petals. Finally, I glued the wool coil onto the center.

These wool flowers would make a great lapel pin, a gift decoration, a bowl filler, or add a stem and make a bouquet! Happy creating!
