In this primitive craft tutorial, I am going to make a rag candle ring. I chose to make mine using a solid natural colored muslin fabric, but you could use any color of fabrics to go along with your primitive decor.

Make the Wire Ring:
To make the candle ring, I used an old wire clothes hanger. I used wire cutters to cut off the top of the hanger and then I straightened out the wire.

I then used needle nose pliers to form one end of the wire into a loop and I bent the wire of the hanger into a circle the correct size for my pillar candle. I made a 5″ circle for a 3″ wide pillar candle.
Once the circle was formed, I cut the straight end of the wire off about 3/4″ past the end of the circle and used the needle nose pliers to make a loop in that end of the wire. I put the two loops together and crimped the loops closed.

I worked on manipulating the wire ring until I had a nice looking circle.
The Rag Strips:
I used natural colored muslin fabric and tore strips about 6″ x 1/2″ wide. I cut 170 strips and I used most of them for my candle ring.
After all the strips were torn, I coffee dyed the fabric. Dyeing after tearing makes sure you have lots of grunge along the edges of the fabric.
Next, I tied each strip onto the wire ring using a single knot, pushing the strips together as tight as possible.
