My mom has been hooking rugs since I was a kid. Luckily, when I need some rug hooking advice, she is always happy to help. In this rug hooking tutorial, my Mom shows us how she gets the points crisp when rug hooking the points on a star.

Hooking the Points of a Star:
To start, take one worm and fold it in half. Start at the very end of one of the points of the star and bring up the worm right in the middle where you folded it in half. On the back side, you should have half of the wool strip on either side of your hooked loop. You will hook each half of the worm up one side of that point of the star.

As you hook, work your way down the outline of the star, forming the loops at a bit of an angle following the angle of the star.
The second side is harder to get started. Bring the first loop on that side up and work it in so it forms a nice point.

Repeat those steps for each point of the star. When you get the points done, finish outlining the entire star. Then you can fill in the inside of the star. In the narrower parts of the star, you might have to turn the loops sideways to get them to properly fit into the spaces.
