I finished punching this free blue bird needle punch project and I wanted to share the pattern with you. It is small, so it would make a perfect project for a beginning puncher!
It features a blue bird holding a red tulip in its mouth. The background has been punched with a hand-dyed variegated floss.
The blue bird has been punched using 3 strands of DMC embroidery floss. (Find out how to easily split an entire skein of floss at once!)
The finished punch needle design measures about two and a half inches tall and about four inches wide. Feel free to shrink or enlarge the pattern to suit your needs.
The free blue bird punch needle pattern is available in our free Pattern Library. It is also the featured pattern in the Beginner’s Guide to Punch Needle Embroidery e-book.
Here are the colors I used:
- Bird’s Belly – DMC 919
- Bird’s Wing – DMC 931
- Bird’s Beak and Legs – DMC 783
- Stem – DMC 3051
- Flower – DMC 921
- Background – DMC Ecru that I over-dyed with coffee.
When punching with variegated threads, experiment with different punching styles to get different results. Learn tips for punching with variegated threads.
I used a small bead for the eye.
Happy punching!
Blessings~
