I first made some of these indoor snowballs many years ago to add to a snowman display. I have used some fake snowballs every year since in my Christmas decorating.
I have made the snowballs in many different sizes. The older ones have taken on an old, grungy look naturally, which I love.
Today, I am going to show you how I make these indoor snowballs. It is a messy process, but it is easy.

Indoor Snowball Supplies:
To make the snowballs, you will need:
- Craft foam balls – I am using a 2″ ball in this tutorial.
- Warm & Natural cotton batting
- Mod Podge spray
- White glitter – I used a real fine glitter, a larger glitter, and some chunky glitter flakes
- Disposable bowl
Make the Fake Snowballs:
Cut a piece of the cotton batting large enough to completely cover a craft foam ball. The batting will be wrapped around the ball and “wadded” as needed.
Pour some Mod Podge into a disposable bowl. Place the cut batting into the bowl to get it completely wet.
Completely cover the foam ball with the wet batting. After it is completely covered, squeeze it as if you are making a real snowball.
While the snowball is still wet, sprinkle on some glitter. I started with the chunkiest flakes first. I added the glitter over the bowl and then rolled the snowball around in the glue/glitter in the bowl to add even more sparkle.
After the glue is dry, you can enjoy your indoor snowballs!
