Today, I am at my Mom’s house and we are going to make a primitive style faux Colonial sugar cone. We experimented with making them two different ways. In this post, I will show you the easier, and better looking way. If you want to see both methods, you can watch the video below.

Make the Prim Colonial Sugar Cone:
To make the sugar cone, I started with an 8″ styrofoam cone and cut 4″ off the top with a kitchen knife and cutting board.
In a shallow container, I mixed some cinnamon, nutmeg, and fine glitter flakes. The mixture was mostly cinnamon with a little of the other two.
I coated the bottom (wider) half of the cone with a glue and water mixture. You could also use a matte finish Mod Podge. I rolled the cone in the cinnamon mixture to coat it entirely with the cinnamon.
After it was completely coated, I brushed on a coat of the Mod Podge to seal the cinnamon onto the cone.
When that was dry, I sprayed it with a coat of clear matte sealer.
Once the sealer was dry, I took a 10″ square of coffee dyed cheesecloth, centered the sugar cone on top of it, and gathered it around and tied it with a piece of jute.
I placed it into a small tart tin to display it.
