In this primitive decor tutorial, I will show you how I made an allspice heart. I hung mine on a skeleton key in an antique cabinet – the perfect primitive accent! Once I figured out a system, it was pretty fast to string the allspice onto the wire.

Make the Primitive Allspice Heart:
To make primitive heart, I used whole allspice berries. In the same package of allspice, you will get a variety of sizes. For this craft project, the larger the better.
Sort through the allspice to pick out some larger ones. I used 43 for my heart. Pick out several more than you think you will need because some of them will crack and break.
The berries are very hard, so they need to be soaked in water before making the heart. I soaked my berries in a bowl of water for around 4 hours.
I cut a 12″ piece of thin steel wire (28 gauge) to string the allspice onto. You want the wire to be thin, but still able to hold a shape. Bend one end of the wire over so the allspice berries don’t slide off.
If you look real close at the allspice berries, you will see an indention in them. This is where you want to poke the wire through.
I had some trouble getting the hang of stringing these at first. I found that if I poked the allspice berry with a pin in the indention and kept hold on the berry with my left hand, I was able to then easily string the wire into the hole.
I left about 1-1/2″ unstrung wire on the end. I unfolded the other end and centered the allspice berries on the wire. I twisted the two ends of the wire together with some needle nose pliers and tucked the ends of the wire down around the allspice.
I added a rusty wire hanger and a bit of tea dyed cheesecloth.
