Punch needle projects on clothing are getting very popular, but how washable are they?
Here are my results from Washing Punch Needle on Clothing.
After I punched a sheep onto a denim shirt,
I wasn’t exactly sure how to successfully wash the punch needle project.
I am not a fan of hand-washing,
so I decided to try to wash the punch needle project in the washing machine.
Washing Punch Needle on Clothing:
First, I buttoned the shirt and turned it inside out.
(I buttoned it first to keep it from turning back right side out during washing.)
I washed it alone in cold water
on the delicate cycle of my washing machine.
I have a front load – no agitator machine.
I hung it up to dry.
I repeated this process of washing and drying four times
to see how the punch needle would hold up.
This is what it looked like after the four washes.
I think it still looks great!
The sheep was punched using 3 strands of DMC embroidery floss.
DMC threads are advertised to be colorfast and fade resistant.
I would advise making sure the threads you use
to punch needle on clothing are also colorfast and fade resistant.
Don’t be afraid to wash your punch needle projects that are on clothing!
Blessings~
