I am excited to show you how I sometimes use French knots in punch needle projects.
I am working on a new Santa punch needle project
and I just couldn’t get the eyes to look correct with punching.
So, I took the eye punching out and made the eyes with a french knot.
Watch the Video:
How to make a french knot in your punch needle project:
I punched all around the area where I wanted the french knot, leaving the spot open.
From the back (working side), I pushed my needle through to the front of the project in the middle of the open spot.
I wrapped the thread around the needle 3 times
(The more wraps, the larger your knot will be.)
and inserted the needle back through to the back side of the fabric.

I have used French knots in several punch needle patterns.
I used french knots for the berries on both the fall and winter sheep in this pattern,
as well as the berries in this turkey pattern
and the berries on the holly on this sheep ornament.
This bunny’s eye was also made using a french knot.
Using beads is also a nice way to add a small detail.
Blessings~
